LOCAL FOOD MOVEMENT

The "Grayson Grown" initiative aims to help Grayson County businesses and farmers promote their products and services.  It also encourages citizens to support small businesses in the community by shopping locally. This can also be done through the Online Farmers Market.

LOCAL FOOD GUIDE

The Local Food Guide is a free resource for consumers who seek local food year-round. The guide highlights farmers markets, restaurants, farms, businesses and more across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. This annual publication provides your business with year-round promotion. The Local Food Guide is made possible through advertising sales with 10,00-15,000 copies being distributed each year. When you use the guide, you’re helping create a strong local food culture.

Volunteers Packing Food

FOOD INDEPENDENCE

A local non-profit started in April 2020 to fight hunger in Grayson County VA. Food is collected throughout the month, packed into boxes and distributed via a drive through distribution line on the 4th Tuesday of every month. In extreme cases of need, boxes have been delivered. Please click on the link below to find out more and get involved in this great program.

Two other food pantries of interest are Hands of Grace Food Bank in Elk Creek and the Little Free Food Pantry in Mouth of Wilson...both working with Food Independence to feed residents in Grayson County.

Additionally, three other Little Free Food Pantries are located throughout the county at the following churches: Independence First United Methodist, Bridle Creek United Methodist and Flat Rock United Methodist.
